Privacy policy

Discretion is part of the house. This page explains, plainly, what personal data we hold, why we hold it, and what you may ask us to do with it.

Who we are

Marchetti & Vale is the trading name of the online menswear house responsible for this site and for the personal data described here — the data controller, in the language of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Questions about this policy, or about the data we hold on you, should be sent through our contact form. We answer within two working days.

What we collect

Order information. Your name, delivery and billing address, email address, telephone number where given, and the contents and value of your order.

Payment information. Card and wallet details are entered on our payment provider's secure checkout and are processed by them. We never see or store your full card number.

Correspondence. The name, email address, subject and message you send through the contact form, so we can reply and keep a record of the exchange.

Newsletter. Your email address, if you choose to subscribe.

Technical data. IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited, gathered through cookies and similar technologies. See our cookie notice.

Why we use it

To take, fulfil and deliver your order, and to handle returns and exchanges — necessary for the performance of our contract with you.

To answer your messages, prevent fraud, keep the site secure and improve what we offer — our legitimate interest in running the house properly.

To send you the newsletter and to set non-essential cookies — only with your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

To keep accounting and tax records — a legal obligation.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who make the house work: our ecommerce and checkout platform, our payment providers, the suppliers and carriers who make and deliver your garments, our email and review services, and our analytics provider. Each processes your data on our instructions and under contract.

Some of these providers operate outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

How long we keep it

Order and invoice records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, generally seven years. Correspondence is kept for up to three years after the matter is closed. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is kept in aggregate form.

Your rights in Europe and the United Kingdom

You may ask us for a copy of the data we hold on you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time — every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link.

Write to us through the contact form and we will act on your request within one month. If you believe we have handled your data badly, you may complain to the data protection authority in your country of residence.

Your rights in the United States

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may ask us to tell you what personal information we have collected about you and why, to give you a copy of it, to correct it, or to delete it. You may also appeal a decision we make on such a request.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. Where advertising cookies are used, you may opt out through the cookie controls described in our cookie notice, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals sent by your browser.

We will never discriminate against you — in price, in service or in how you are treated — for exercising any of these rights. Requests go through the contact form and are answered within 45 days, extendable once where the law allows.

The house is based in Europe, so data on US clients is transferred to and processed in the European Economic Area. Our products and this site are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will amend this policy as the house changes. The version published here is always the one in force.
